Members of Maine Mystics Ring 362 Meet in the First Max Malini Parlor Magic Contest

Brother Don Paul, performing as the Mysterious Baxter,
is the winner of the first annual Max Malini Parlor Magic Contest organized by the Maine Mystics Ring 362.
Producing a borrowed ring from a can of spray paint helped the Mysterious Baxter, aka Brother Don Paul,
walk away with top honors at the Maine Mystic Ring 362's first Max Malini Parlor Magic Contest. It is scheduled to become an annual event.
The rules allowed each contestant up to ten minutes to perform parlor magic before an audience consisting
of three non-magician judges, Ring members, and the public. The contest was held in a delightful parlor with
stained glass windows at the All Souls Congregational Church in Bangor, where the Ring is located. Proceeds
from the event helped a group of young people from the congregation travel to Honduras.
Brother Don opened with a bit of silent card magic with a very surprising ending. He moved on to a smooth
presentation of Silk to Egg, played his version of Bank Night, and closed by having a borrowed ring travel to
the inside of a can of spray paint. All was well when he spray-painted a picture of the ring, then produced
the ring from the picture. In addition to winning first place in the view of the judges, Brother Don also won
the People's Choice Award by a vote of the audience.
Also competing were Conjuring Carroll, who came in second, Danny Baker, who finished third, Roland Perry
and Dr. Wilson. More photos and details of the performance are available on the Ring's Web site (www.ibmring362.org).
