Ring Report February 21, 2010
Minutes for this meeting.
The theme for February was Commando Cards. Members were asked to perform card effects with a borrowed deck.
Several members had come prepared with decks of cards, which they offered to other performers.
Danny Baker went over the top with a big storage container of freaky decks, including see-through plastic cards, Bicycle Tacticals, and other strange decks.
Fortunately, there were several more conventional choices available, so after the exhibition of decks that you'd be sorry to borrow, the magic began.
Members met in the comfort of Pizza Oven of Bangor, courtesy of Gary Jewell.
Dr. Wilson borrowed a deck, discarding the Jokers. He showed two cards, placing one about a third of the way from the bottom of the tabled deck, and the other about a third of the way from the top.
Showing that the edges of the deck were even, with no cards protruding, he picked up the deck and instantly retrieved the two cards.
Gary Jewell had Professor Miller select a card and return it to the deck, then located it using muscle reading.
He rested his fingertips lightly on Professor Miller's palm as he ran the index finger of his other hand over the spread deck, eventually stopping at the selected card.
Danny Baker performed a card effect that he had performed in a dream, working out a method after waking.
He had two volunteers select cards and return them to the deck; both cards were found reversed.
Brother Don Paul performed one of the several versions of Twisting the Aces that he knows.
He showed a packet of four Aces from a borrowed deck. One at a time, the Aces turned over in the packet.
He then buried the four Aces in the deck and located them one at a time, each revelation better than the last.
Finally, he performed Stabbed in the Pack by Larry Jennings. He had a volunteer name a card, then removed it from the deck.
He returned it to the deck, then spread the deck to show that the card's mate (same value, same color suit) was reversed.
The two cards between the selected card and its mate were the other two cards of the same value.
