Our September meeting will be held on Sunday, September 16, 2007, at 3:00 pm at the Friars' Bakehouse in Bangor, Maine. Here are directions to the Friars' Bakehouse.

The theme of the meeting is Big Box Magic. We don't mean the sort of magic that Houdini used to vanish an elephant! We mean magic from Big Box Stores. Big Box Stores are those retail leviathans that have crushed the competition by having everything in one place at low prices. Big Box Stores can supply general merchandise (Wal-Mart), office supplies (Staples, Office Dept), everything for the home and workshop (Home Depot, Lowes), or craft items and fabric (A.C. Moore, Jo-Anne Fabrics). This is the meeting to prove that we are surrounded by magic stores if we just look carefully. Perform magic with objects that you found at a Big Box Store, or using apparatus that you built with supplies from a Big Box Store.

Members are free to perform any magic not conforming to the theme following all performances of Big Box Magic.

Following the performances, Dr. Wilson will present a Teaching Table on Publicity. Dr. Wilson has earned a wide reputation as a death-defying escape artist, scandalmonger, con man, flea circus proprietor, and sideshow banner artist through the relentless application of publicity techniques. He has achieved coverage in newspapers, radio, and television. He has been interviewed for national radio programs and appeared in Bizarre magazine and Ripley's Believe It or Not. Dr. Wilson will reveal the techniques behind these achievements and outline strategies that others can use to grasp at fame, even if they are not prepared to walk a path of animal traps while blindfolded!

After the Teaching Table, we will hold a raffle for a Siegfried and Roy Commemorative Casino Chip.
