In the world of magic Howard Thurston is said to be the "greatest magician" of all time. Howard Thurston was born on July 20, 1869 and passed away on April 13, 1936.
Thurston was officially recognized as Harry Kellar's successor in magic, with Kellar himself passing the "mantle of magic" to Thurston onstage, an moment depicted in a few of the glorious lithographs promoting Thurston's show.
There is a terrific web site devoted to Howard Thurston maintained by Rory Feldman, whose efforts to preserve the memory of Howard Thurston are covered in the August 2006 issue of The Linking Ring.
Following the performances at the January 2007 meeting, a raffle was held for the Thurston throw-out card. Members and guests were permitted to purchase as many tickets as they liked at $1 each, with all funds going to the Ring. Kim Hawkins won the raffle. Please see the minutes for the January 2007 meeting.

Some trivia regarding Howard Thurston for the meeting:
It is noted in Milbourne Christopher's Illustrated History of Magic on page 224, Dr. James William Elliott taught Thurston the "front, back card palm."
Perhaps with one of his throwing cards?
