Raffle Prize for May Sunday, May 20, 2007 - 3:00 pm
Friars' Bakehouse, Bangor, ME
1928 Howard Thurston Good Luck Token
In the world of magic Howard Thurston is said to be the "greatest magician" of all time. Howard Thurston was born on July 20, 1869 and passed away on April 13, 1936.
Thurston was officially recognized as Harry Kellar's successor in magic, with Kellar himself passing the "mantle of magic" to Thurston onstage, an moment
depicted in a few of the glorious lithographs promoting Thurston's show.
There is a terrific web site devoted to
Howard Thurston maintained by Rory Feldman, whose efforts to preserve the memory of
Howard Thurston are covered in the August 2006 issue of The Linking Ring.
Following the performances at the May 2007 meeting, a raffle was held for the 1928 Thurston Good Luck Token.
Members and guests were permitted to purchase as many tickets as
they liked at $1 each, with all funds going to the Ring.
Matt Bennage won the raffle, which raised $31 for the Ring.
