Howard Thurston's The Book of Mystery

Our raffle prize for the March 2008 meeting was a nice copy of Howard Thurston's The Book of Mystery, copyright 1930. The Book of Mystery contains 64 pages of magic tricks, astrology, palmistry, numerology, dream interpretation, and fortune telling, as well as a short biography of Howard Thurston and his daughter Jane.

Look at the sample pages above. There are some simple magic tricks, accounts of Thurston's travels around the world (see the photo of the Hindu snake charmers above), and delightful pitches for horoscopes and good luck tokens. You'll have a lot of fun with every one of these 64 pages!

Following the performances at the March 2008 meeting, a raffle was held for Howard Thurston's The Book of Mystery. Members and guests were permitted to purchase as many tickets as they liked at $1 each, 6 for $5, or 13 for $10. Brother Don Paul won the raffle, which raised $22 for the Ring's Lecture Endowment.
