Minutes of Executive Meeting
January 17, 2010

A meeting of the Board was held on Sunday, January 17, 2010, at Dino's Pizza following the regular Ring meeting.

Officers:

  • President: Geoffrey Miller (present)
  • Vice President: Gary Jewell (absent)
  • Secretary: Paul Szauter (present)
  • Treasurer: Prashant Srivastava (present)
  • Sergeant At Arms: Brian Rodgers (absent)
  • Past President: Danny Baker (present)

The Board held a brief meeting without a formal agenda.

Prashant Srivastava assumed the role of Treasurer, accepting from the Secretary checks for petty cash and a donation for a total of $230.00. The bank balance of $2082.41 is in the Machias Savings Bank. In order for the new Treasurer to gain signature authority, he and Randy Von Smith must appear at the same time at the bank office. As this is impractical, Prashant will request that Randy close the account, presenting him with a check for $2082.41 made out to I.B.M. Ring 362. This will be deposited in a new bank account, preferably one that does not charge a service fee to nonprofits. Prashant Srivastava and Geoffrey Miller will both obtain signature authority for the account.

The Treasurer and President will work together to create standard spreadsheet forms for tracking Ring income and expenses.

President Geoffrey Miller reminded the Board that the Ring budget is due within 30 days of the election. The President, Vice President and Treasurer make up the Budget Committee and will work on the 2010 budget. The Secretary reminded the Board that the fee for two years of web hosting will come due in March; this will be about $500.

Danny Baker, who had just been appointed Contest Official for the Elliott Card Challenge, was asked to find a location in Bangor for the contest on April 18.

Paul Szauter, who had just been appointed Contest Official for the Chung Ling Soo Stage Magic Competition, will find a suitable theater for the weekend of May 14-16.

The Board discussed the scheduling of the Malini Parlor Magic Contest and the Leipzig Close-up Magic Contest. Danny Baker suggested the recital hall of the Bangor Public Library for the Malini Parlor Magic Contest. He also suggested holding the Leipzig Close-up Magic Contest at Dino's on a date and time likley to draw a crowd to Dino's. There was a consensus that both of these contests should be held on dates that did not displace Ring meetings, and that both should be held before the summer.

Danny Baker also proposed a new contest for children's entertainers, the Kid Comedy Challenge. He suggested that this contest would require a ten-minute video submission with the entry, and would be judged by a three-judge panel with the audience of children selecting a performer as the Kid's Choice.

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned.

These minutes were approved unanimously by email vote 01/20/2010.
