Minutes of April 2007 Meeting
April 29, 2007


Ring Report for this meeting.

The April Meeting of I.B.M. Ring 362 was held at the Hotel Harris in Rumford, Maine, on April 29, 2007, at 3:00 pm. The theme of the meeting was Card Manipulation. The meeting began with the 2007 Dr. James William Elliott Card Challenge. Please see the Ring Report for details of the performances.

A raffle was held for a framed photo of Dr. James William Elliott, donated by Scot Grassette. Bryan-Keith Taylor won the raffle, which raised $29 for the Ring.

Danny Baker called the meeting to order. Sergeant At Arms Geoffrey Miller cited a set of simplified Rules of Order that have been made available as a PDF on the Ring's web site, which were adopted as the Rules of Order for the meeting.

The agenda for the meeting had been made available in advance, and Danny Baker called for the adoption of the agenda, which was approved without amendment.

The minutes for the March meeting were approved without amendment.

The Secretary reported on behalf of the Treasurer that the Ring's bank account has a balance of $854.87 and that there is $248 in petty cash, for a total of $1102.87. Recent expenses include $61.70 for the Rumford plaque, with the Ring yet to receive $30.85 from Assembly 174. The Ring funds include the following amounts in endowments: Elliott Endowment ($10), Ring Name Plaque Endowment ($40), Chung Ling Soo Endowment ($20), and Max Malini Endowment ($20).

In Old Business, the Secretary reported on behalf of Brother Don Paul on the Max Malini Parlor Magic Contest. The rules for the contest, which have been recently posted on the Ring's website, were circulated. In brief, the contestants must be Ring members and will have ten minutes to perform. Performances exceeding ten minutes will be disqualified. The performers will be judged by a panel of at least three nonmagician judges. There will also be a People's Choice award, determined by a vote of all persons present with the exception of the judges.

In Old Business, the Secretary reported on behalf of General Show Chair Randy Von Smith on the All-Star Magical Revue, set for July 4, 2007, at 2:30 pm at the Criterion Theatre in Bar Harbor. The Show Committee has prepared a tentative set list for the show as follows:

Members involved so far are: Randy Von Smith (Talent Coordination & General Show Chair), Paul Szauter (Publicity and Ticket Sales), Geoffrey Miller (Stage & Theater Management). Also working publicity are Danny Baker (radio publicity), Dr. Wilson and Kevin Roberge (Breakfast Unit), Admiral the Clown, Professor Miller, Kevin Roberge, Dr. Wilson, Sue McClatchy (Parade Unit). The stage crew is: Randy Von Smith, Matt Bennage, Kevin Roberge, and Aubrey Smith. The Ring needs more volunteers for backstage work and the Parade Unit; members are encouraged to volunteer.

In New Business, Dennis Labbe reminded members of the Ralph Greenwood Comedy Magic Contest, scheduled for May 6.

With no further business, a motion was made to adjourn the meeting. The motion passed unanimously.
