Minutes of January 2010 Meeting
January 17, 2010


Ring Report for this meeting.

The January Meeting of I.B.M. Ring 362 was held at Dino's Pizza in Brewer, Maine, on January 17, 2010, at 3:00 pm. The theme of the meeting was Teach A Trick.

President Geoffrey Miller called the meeting to order. He cited a set of simplified Rules of Order that have been made available as a PDF on the Ring's web site, which were adopted as the Rules of Order for the meeting.

The agenda for the meeting had been made available in advance. The agenda was approved without amendment.

The minutes for the November meeting were approved without amendment.

In the absence of Treasurer Randy Von Smith, the Secretary presented the Treasurer's Report. The bank balance was $2082.41, and there was petty cash and undeposited checks for $230.00 for a total of $2312.41. Members voted to approve the Treasurer's Report.

In Old Business, the election of 2010 Ring officers was held. All offices were uncontested, and the election proceeded without balloting. The Secretary cast a single ballot for the nominees. The new officers are: Geoffrey Miller (President), Gary Jewell (Vice President), Paul Szauter (Secretary), Prashant Srivastava (Treasurer) and Brian Rodgers (Sergeant At Arms).

In Old Business, the President called for the payment of 2010 dues. Dues are set at $10 for the year.

In Old Business, members reviewed the results of The Magic of Christmas, the public show held December 5. Theater rental was $250, and there were no other expenses. Ticket sales totaled $411, for a profit of $161.

In Old Business, the President called for the submission of names for the Ring Name Raffle, to be held at the March meeting. The current name (Bob Nixon Ring) was entered automatically. Prashant Srivastava suggested "Magic Mainiacs." No other names were submitted.

In New Business, the President reviewed the calendar for 2010. The theme for February is Commando Cards, with Dr. Wilson as the Theme Leader. The theme for March is Old Wine in New Bottles, with Professor Miller as the Theme Leader. Dr. Wilson will present a Teaching Table on Ball, Cone and Silk at the March meeting.

In New Business, the President appointed Danny Baker as Contest Official for the Elliott Card Challenge, to be held on April 18 at a location of Danny's choice in Bangor.

In New Business, the President appointed Paul Szauter as Contest Official for the Chung Ling Soo Stage Magic Competition, to be held on the weekend of May 14-16 at a suitable theater.

In New Business, the President called for more suggestions for themes and Teaching Tables. Prashant Srivastava suggested a mentalism theme for June. Members suggested various titles for this theme, including Psychic Night, Magic of the Mind, and Mind Power. Prashant Srivastava also suggested the theme of Magic From DVDs for July, with members presenting effects that they had learned from a DVD.

With no further business, a motion was made to adjourn the meeting. The motion passed unanimously.
